I have been reading a lot about collaboration. I have read reports of companies failing because they were not willing to collaborate believing that harsh competition lead to success not partnership. I constantly learn from the mistakes of others, and the idea of failing because I was too prideful has stuck with me.
As the Executive Director of Yoga 4 Change I believe 100% in collaboration. I credit this to being the reason we have been able to sustain these first 2 years, and how we are going to create greater change in the future. I have seen first hand collaboration help people accomplish tasks they felt were impossible, and also seen individuals too scared to collaborate and then subsequently fail.
This constant idea of wanting to collaborate led me to put my “money where my mouth is” so to speak. Some of you have read my blog and you know I write about what makes Yoga 4 Change different, why we have a curriculum, the changes we are seeing in the community. But I know that none of our successes would be possible without the support of Yoga 4 Change’s team, our board, our volunteers, or our partner organizations. At first I thought collaborating on the blog would look like only having the Yoga 4 Change team to write blog posts describing what yoga had done in their lives. After reading their submissions I saw an opportunity to collaborate in a bigger way. So I wrote other teachers I knew, leaders in our community, mentors and friends all with the intention of hearing their ideas and learning from them.
These submissions kept coming, and keep coming in. My new friends have taught me so much, and I am pleased to share their ideas with Yoga 4 Change fans. If any of these ideas cause you to stop and think, or you want to know more about the author – please do not hesitate to contact us. If you want to contribute to these blogs – please do not hesitate to contact us.
I am so excited to collaborate in new ways, learn from other’s experiences and help however I can with whoever asks. The best quote I read about collaboration is from Helen Keller: “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” Yoga 4 Change has big ideas on creating change, and because of collaboration I know we can come through on our goals.
Expect our “Collaboration Blog” (as we are calling it) to be released on Wednesday mornings. We hope you enjoy this first submission by one of our own teachers Angela Centers. She is a powerhouse, and you can find her teaching for Yoga 4 Change, as well as MBody Yoga. Read our first post HERE!
